SEOUL -- Lia Kim, a South Korean choreographer who trained girl band Girls' Generation and rapper Jay Park, has become chief performance officer at Taitan Content, the first K-pop agency based in the United States. The 39-year-old dancer will nurture global artists at the Los Angeles-based entertainment company.

Kim has served as a choreographer and instructor for various artists at three entertainment powerhouses in South Korea -- SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, and JYP Entertainment. She is currently the head of 1Million Dance Studio, a dance studio known for its dance choreography YouTube channel with some 26.2 million subscribers. The world-class dancer has gained popularity for choreographing TT, a dance song by girl group TWICE, and Gashina by singer Sunmi, a former member of girl band Wonder Girls.

Kim has become the chief performance officer (CPO) for Taitan Content, the agency said on November 29. The company, headquartered in LA, also operates an office and studio in Seoul. Taitan is led by two chief executive officers -- Han Se-min, former CEO of SM Entertainment, and Katie Kang, who was SM's casting team manager.

"By connecting the East and the West, Taitan plans to lead the K-pop revolution on a global scale," Kang said. She added: "Not only will we utilize our vast experience and expertise to develop and create beloved K-pop artists and brands, we will also push the industry forward through savvy Web3 disruption." The agency aims to combine the conventional K-pop business model with metaverse and artificial intelligence.

Earlier this year, Kim also participated in the second season of Street Woman Fighter, a famous dance survival program, along with members of 1Million Dance Studio.
