Samsung Heavy Industries has secured additional orders for two crude oil carriers, achieving its shipping sector order target for the year ahead of schedule.

On August 3, Samsung Heavy Industries announced that it signed a construction contract worth 268 billion won with a European shipping company for the two crude oil carriers. The vessels are scheduled for delivery by August 2029.

This year, Samsung Heavy Industries has accumulated orders for 34 vessels, totaling $5.8 billion, surpassing its order target of $5.7 billion by 102%. The orders include 14 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers (including one LNG-FSRU), two ethane carriers, four gas carriers, two container ships, and 12 crude oil carriers. Overall, the company’s cumulative orders for the year, including two floating LNG production facilities (FLNG), amount to $10.2 billion, which is 73% of its annual target of $13.9 billion.

A representative from Samsung Heavy Industries stated, "With ongoing orders for LNG carriers and crude oil carriers, the shipping sector is on track to meet its order guidance early this year. We will continue to focus on selective orders centered on profitability and respond flexibly to changes in demand through global operations."

Additionally, Samsung Heavy Industries participated in the opening ceremony of the Korea-U.S. Shipbuilding Cooperation Center (KUSPC) last month, where it signed agreements related to U.S. business and joint research.
