On Thursday, David Beckham (38) announced that he would retire after the final two games with Paris Saint-Germain.

Beckham’s career began with Manchester United at age 17 and he is currently playing for French Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain.

Paris Saint-Germain offered to extend the contract however, Beckham decided to end his career as the pro soccer player.

In an interview, Beckham said, "It’s a good way to go out. It’s every athlete’s dream, every footballer’s dream to go out on the top- on top form or winning a trophy, leaving as a champion."

His fans are now honoring Beckham on Twitter and publicly including UK Prime Minister David Cameron.

Prime Minister Cameron commented "David Beckham has been an outstanding footballer throughout his career. Not only that, he has been a brilliant ambassador for this country, not least if we remember all the work he did in helping us win London 2012."

Beckham’s wife Victoria Beckham has not yet made an announcement on her husband’s retirement.
