The iconic group's performance of "Cool With You" will air on a music show starting at 11:25 p.m. (1425 GMT), the national television channel said. The song is part of "Get Up," the group's mini-album released in July 2023.
NewJeans is the second K-pop group, after BTS, to perform at Geunjeongjeon, the main hall of the Gyeongbokgung royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty (1392 - 1897). Geunjeongjeon was used to hold national ceremonies during the last Korean dynasty and was designated as a national treasure in 1985.
NewJeans' special stage has filmed, with members performing dressed in traditional Korean clothing, "hanbok."
KBS said Thursday filming of NewJeans' special stage had been recently completed, with members performing in traditional Korean clothing, "hanbok." The showcase is part of a concert titled "2024 Korea On Stage – New Generation," hosted by the Korea Heritage Service, formerly known as the Cultural Heritage Administration.
"It is truly an honor to perform at Geunjeongjeon in Gyeongbokgung, a precious national heritage of Korea," said NewJeans' member Minji. "I hope this will serve as an opportunity to spark widespread interest in our national heritage."
It is rare to host K-pop events at the historic palace. BTS became the first K-pop band to perform in front of Geunjeongjeon in September 2020 when the group filmed a special edition of the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. In May 2023, the main hall was also used to host a fashion show by Gucci.
