The state power company held a completion ceremony on Thursday for the 978 megawatt-class ESS for grid stabilization in Miryang. The ESS is a system that stores electricity when demand is low and supplies it during peak times.
This project, with a total investment of 830 billion won, involved installing a power conversion system (PCS) with a capacity of 978 megawatts and batteries capable of storing 889 megawatt-hours of energy. The PCS converts electrical properties to store or release energy as needed.
A total of 14 companies participated in the project, including Hyosung Heavy Industries, LS Electric, HD Hyundai Electric, Samsung SDI, and LG Energy Solution.
The grid stabilization ESS is expected to alleviate power generation constraints caused by delays in grid construction by up to 1 gigawatt.
"We will continue to strive for a stable and sustainable power supply to improve the national economy and the quality of life for the people, leveraging the technology and experience accumulated from the ESS construction sites to drive the energy transition," said Seo Chul-soo, vice president of KEPCO's power system division.
