SEOUL, October 27 (AJP) - The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) brought together about 100 business leaders and executives in Seoul on Tuesday to discuss how artificial intelligence can improve workplace productivity while presenting new challenges in employee training, cybersecurity and legal compliance.
Held at the Grand Hyatt Seoul under the theme "AI-Ready Workforce: Leading People & Managing Risk in the Age of AI," the workshop featured speakers from Google, OpenAI, Speak and law firm Kim & Chang.
"AI is changing how we work. Our job as leaders is to make that change work for our businesses and our people," said AMCHAM Chairman and CEO James Kim, emphasizing the need to equip employees with AI skills while managing organizational risks.
Lee Sang-im, director of the Vocational Skills Policy Division at the Ministry of Employment and Labor, introduced the K-New Deal Academy, a government-led vocational training initiative designed to strengthen young people's job skills through cooperation with companies.
Google's APAC Public Affairs Lead Chenie Yoon presented findings from the company's ATLAS study on workplace AI adoption, while OpenAI's Head of Korea Communications Sungwon Eum discussed how ChatGPT can reduce repetitive tasks and allow employees to focus on more strategic work.
Eum also warned that AI could make cyberattacks more sophisticated, underscoring the importance of safeguards and human oversight.
Other sessions examined organizational transformation and legal risks facing corporate executives. Participants also discussed how businesses could move beyond experimenting with AI toward broader implementation while maintaining employee trust and regulatory compliance.
