SEOUL -- As animation markets face a technical transition from 2D to 3D in the metaverse era, i3DMeta, a startup based in South Korea, is drawing attention with a fast 3D image conversion solution that can provide competitive prices.

Traditionally, converting 2D images into 3D has required a large number of manpower and long hours of work, However, i3DMeta's solution was seen as an effective tool to save time and cost. The startup hopes to open an era where 3D videos of various genres can be enjoyed at home.

South Korea's top telecom company KT recognized i3DMeta's technical ability and signed a business agreement on June 30 to apply a 3D conversion solution to various fields such as metaverse and Internet Protocol television (IPTV), which is the delivery of television content over Internet Protocol networks.

With KT's support, the startup would expand its over-the-top (OTT) business through cooperation in producing 3D video content. The startup would develop a product that can view 3D images through home TVs or monitor devices without 3D monitors. "We will make efforts to open an era where 3D videos of various genres can be enjoyed at home in the future through our own 3D conversion solution," said i3DMeta CEO Chung Sung-won.

i3DMeta has joined hands with a number of domestic startups including Funnycon, a short film distributor, to develop 3D films, and Lim Factory, which is trying to launch its character animation Shape in China and pioneer a new market with 3D animation and 3D NFT content on metaverse platforms.
