Gmarket is significantly expanding its cross-border sales in collaboration with Lazada, a leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia.
On June 28, Gmarket announced that it will increase the number of products available through its partnership with Lazada from 7 million to 30 million, more than quadrupling the offerings.
According to Gmarket, over 17,000 domestic sellers are participating in the global sales program. These products will connect with approximately 160 million consumers across five Southeast Asian countries: Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines.
This expansion follows improvements to the global sales integration system between Gmarket and Lazada. Previously, only products with free shipping were eligible for global sales, but the recent enhancements now include paid shipping and conditional free shipping options.
When an overseas order is placed, Gmarket sellers only need to send their products to Gmarket's logistics center in Incheon. Gmarket and Lazada will handle the entire international shipping and customs process.
The results are already evident. In the first half of this year (January 1 to June 21), Gmarket's sales through Lazada increased by 102% compared to the second half of last year. In the most recent month (May 22 to June 21), sales surged by 232% compared to the previous month.
During Lazada's major promotional event, 'Double Day' on June 6, the platform recorded its highest total product transaction amount since the integration began. Sales of Korean brand products also saw a remarkable increase of 246% compared to the previous month.
A Gmarket representative stated, "We will continue to invest in expanding our global sales infrastructure and enhancing local marketing to broaden the ecosystem for Korean products in overseas markets."
Meanwhile, Gmarket is accelerating its international expansion based on a joint venture between Shinsegae and Alibaba. The company plans to enter the North American, Latin American, and Middle Eastern markets by 2027, with a goal of achieving an annual cross-border transaction volume of 1 trillion won by 2030.
