On October 12, Korean National Assembly Speaker Cho Jung-sik met with Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas to discuss expanding cooperation in the shipbuilding and defense industries.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Cho met with Tasoulas at the Presidential Palace in Athens. He stated, "As security threats in Europe increase, Greece is working to enhance its military capabilities, and I hope our companies can contribute to strengthening Greece's defense."

Cho referred to Greece as a blood ally that sent troops to defend South Korea's freedom and peace during the Korean War, despite not having diplomatic relations at the time. He added, "I look forward to advancing cooperation in the shipbuilding and maritime sectors and expanding our collaboration into future industries such as defense."

Regarding the delays in the renewal of residence permits for Korean staff in Greece, he mentioned, "I have heard that the Greek government and the South Korean embassy in Greece are establishing a cooperative system to resolve this issue effectively."

In response, President Tasoulas acknowledged the interest of Korean defense companies in enhancing maritime power, stating, "Relevant agencies will review this matter thoroughly." He also expressed hope that as Greece assumes the presidency of the European Union Council next year, Korea could play a role in enhancing defense capabilities across the EU.

Meanwhile, Cho is on a nine-day tour of Europe from October 6 to 14, visiting Italy, Croatia, and Greece to strengthen diplomatic ties and expand economic cooperation.
